Step-by-step instructions

1. Cast on

  1. 1Cast on 80 stitches using 12mm needles. The stitches will feel big and loose — that is exactly right for a chunky throw.

2. Knit every row

  1. 1Knit every stitch of every row (garter stitch).
  2. 2Join a new ball at the start of a row whenever one runs out.
  3. 3Continue until the blanket measures about 120cm, or you have just enough yarn left to cast off.

3. Cast off

  1. 1Cast off loosely so the edge stays as stretchy as the rest of the blanket.
  2. 2Weave in all the ends securely with the large wool needle.

Top tip: Want it bigger? Every extra 10cm of length uses roughly one more 100g ball, so buy an extra ball or two if you want a generous throw.
