Step-by-step instructions

1. Cast on

  1. 1Cast on 99 stitches (an odd number) with 4mm needles.

2. Work seed stitch

  1. 1Every row: *k1, p1* to last stitch, k1.
  2. 2This creates a reversible nubby texture. Continue until the piece measures 90cm (enough for front plus a back flap).

3. Assemble

  1. 1Fold the piece into an envelope shape around the cushion pad.
  2. 2Sew the side seams. Add three evenly spaced buttons on the overlap flap. Weave in ends.

Top tip: Seed stitch does not curl at the edges like stocking stitch, so it is perfect for cushion covers that lie flat.
