Step-by-step instructions

1. Cast on and rib

  1. 1Cast on 62 stitches with 6.5mm needles.
  2. 2Work in k1, p1 rib for 6cm.

2. Stocking stitch body

  1. 1Continue in stocking stitch until the hat measures 18cm from the cast-on edge.

3. Shape and finish

  1. 1Row 1: *k6, k2tog* to last 6 sts, k6. Continue decreasing every RS row until 8 stitches remain.
  2. 2Thread yarn through remaining stitches, pull tight. Sew side seam.
  3. 3Make a large pom-pom and sew it firmly to the top.

Top tip: Wind the pom-pom really thick and trim it into a perfect sphere — a generous pom-pom makes the hat.
