What you'll need
- 1 x 100g ball of DK yarn
- A pair of 4mm (UK 8 / US 6) knitting needles
- A wool/darning needle
Tension: 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10cm in stocking stitch on 4mm needles.

Step-by-step instructions
1. Cast on and rib (make 2)
- 1Cast on 40 stitches with 4mm needles.
- 2Work in k2, p2 rib for 6cm to form the wrist cuff.
2. Knit the hand
- 1Change to stocking stitch and work straight for 4cm.
- 2On the next RS row, create a thumb opening: k20, cast off 8, k to end.
- 3On the next row, purl to the gap, cast on 8 stitches over the gap, purl to end.
- 4Continue in stocking stitch for another 2cm.
3. Top rib and finish
- 1Work 4 rows of k2, p2 rib. Cast off in rib.
- 2Sew the side seam using mattress stitch. Weave in all ends. Make a second mitt to match.
Top tip: For extra warmth, add a few rows of rib at the finger end to create a snug cuff above the knuckles.
