Step-by-step instructions
1. Ribbed neck
- 1Cast on 32 stitches with 6.5mm needles.
- 2Work in k2, p2 rib for 10cm (this will fold over as a turtleneck).
2. Body
- 1Change to stocking stitch. Increase 1 stitch at each end of every 4th row until you have 48 stitches.
- 2Continue straight until the piece measures 30-35cm from the neck (measure your dog from collar to tail base).
3. Belly strap and finish
- 1Cast on 24 stitches on a separate needle. Work in garter stitch for 20cm. Cast off. Make a second strap.
- 2Sew the straps to the sides of the body piece, positioned to wrap under the dog's tummy. Add buttons or Velcro to fasten.
- 3Weave in all ends.
Top tip: Measure your dog first! Every pup is different. The pattern is easy to adjust — just add or remove rows for length and stitches for width.
