- 2Round 1: ch3, 15tr into ring, join. (16 tr including ch3)
- 3Round 2: ch4, *1tr in next st, ch1* around, join.
2. Middle rounds (colour B)
- 1Round 3: sl st to ch1 sp, ch3, 2tr in same sp, *3tr in next ch1 sp* around, join.
- 2Round 4: ch1, dc in each st around, join.
- 3Round 5: ch3, 1tr in same st, *skip 1, 2tr in next st* around, join.
3. Outer rounds (colour C)
- 1Round 6: ch4, *1dtr in next st, ch1* around, join.
- 2Round 7: ch1, *1dc in dtr, 3dc in ch1 sp* around, join.
- 3Round 8: ch1, dc in each st around, join. Fasten off.
- 4Continue adding rounds in alternating patterns until the mat reaches 35cm. Add a final round of dc.
4. Finish
- 1Weave in all ends. Block by pinning out damp and leaving to dry flat. Starch lightly for extra stiffness if desired.
Top tip: Blocking is essential for mandalas — it opens up the stitches and makes the piece lie perfectly flat.
