Crochet Sunflower
A cheerful crocheted sunflower that brightens any room. Make several for a bouquet that never wilts.

1 x 50g ball yellow + 1 x 50g ball brown + green for stem

What you'll need
- 1 x 50g ball of DK cotton in yellow
- 1 x 50g ball of DK cotton in brown or dark centre colour
- Small amount of green DK cotton for the stem and leaves
- A 3.5mm (UK 9 / US E-4) crochet hook
- Floral wire or pipe cleaners for the stem
- A wool/darning needle

Step-by-step instructions
1. Centre
- 1In brown, chain 4 and join with sl st.
- 2Round 1: ch1, 10dc into ring, join. (10)
- 3Round 2: 2dc in each st. (20) Fasten off brown.
2. Petals
- 1Join yellow in any stitch. *Ch3, 2dtr in next st, ch3, sl st in next st* — repeat around to create 10 petals.
- 2Fasten off. Weave in ends behind the petals.
3. Stem and leaves
- 1In green, ch60 or desired stem length. Dc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch back. This is the stem.
- 2For each leaf: ch10, dc in 2nd ch, then 1dc, 1tr, 2tr, 1tr, 1dc, sl st in last 2 ch. Attach to stem.
- 3Wrap the stem around floral wire for stiffness. Sew the flower head to the top of the stem.
Top tip: Make a whole bouquet in different sizes by varying the number of petal rounds — they make stunning handmade gifts.
