What you'll need

  • 1 x 50g ball of DK yarn
  • A 4mm (UK 8 / US G-6) crochet hook
  • A wool/darning needle

Step-by-step instructions

1. Chain and crochet the band

  1. 1Chain 11.
  2. 2Row 1: dc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. (10 sts) Ch1, turn.
  3. 3Repeat row 1 until the strip measures about 52cm (slightly shorter than your head circumference, as it will stretch).

2. Create the twist

  1. 1Lay the strip flat. Give one end a half-twist (180 degrees) before joining the two short ends together with sl st or a neat whip stitch.

3. Finish

  1. 1Weave in all ends. The twist creates a flattering gathered look at the front.
