Crochet Circle Coasters
A set of four cheerful coasters worked in rounds. A brilliant first crochet project and a lovely housewarming gift.

What you'll need
- 1 x 50g ball of DK cotton yarn (one colour, or scraps in several)
- A 3.5mm (UK 9 / US E-4) crochet hook
- A wool/darning needle

Step-by-step instructions
1. Start (make 4)
- 1Chain 4 and join with a sl st to form a ring.
2. Work in rounds
- 1Round 1: ch1, work 8dc into the ring, join with sl st. (8 sts)
- 2Round 2: ch1, 2dc in each stitch around, join. (16 sts)
- 3Round 3: ch1, *1dc, 2dc in next st* around, join. (24 sts)
- 4Round 4: ch1, *1dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st* around, join. (32 sts)
- 5Round 5: ch1, *1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st* around, join. (40 sts)
3. Finish
- 1Fasten off. Weave in ends. Make three more in the same or different colours.
Top tip: Cotton holds its shape better than wool for coasters — and it is easy to throw in the wash.
