Step-by-step instructions
1. Base
- 1Chain 4, join with sl st to form a ring.
- 2Round 1: ch1, 8dc into ring, join. (8 sts)
- 3Round 2: 2dc in each st around. (16 sts)
- 4Continue increasing evenly (adding 8dc per round) until the base measures 20cm across.
2. Sides
- 1Stop increasing and work straight (1dc in each st around) for about 12-15cm.
- 2The fabric will naturally curve up to form the basket walls.
3. Top edge and finish
- 1Work 2 rounds of dc in a contrast colour for a decorative rim.
- 2Optional: add handles by chaining 10, skipping 5 stitches on each side, and working dc over the chains on the next round.
- 3Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Top tip: Use two strands of yarn held together for an even sturdier basket that really holds its shape.
