Chunky Yarn at Mandy Bond

Thick, warm chunky yarn in gorgeous shades — two balls is all you need.

What you'll need

  • 2 x 100g balls of chunky yarn
  • A pair of 6.5mm (UK 3 / US 10.5) knitting needles
  • A wool/darning needle

Tension: 14 stitches and 20 rows to 10cm in moss stitch on 6.5mm needles.

Step-by-step instructions

1. Cast on

  1. 1Cast on 91 stitches (odd number) with 6.5mm needles.

2. Work moss stitch

  1. 1Row 1: *k1, p1* to last stitch, k1.
  2. 2Row 2: *p1, k1* to last stitch, p1.
  3. 3Repeat rows 1-2 until piece measures 30cm.

3. Cast off and seam

  1. 1Cast off loosely. Sew the short ends together to form a loop. Weave in all ends.

Top tip: Moss stitch uses a tiny bit more yarn than stocking stitch, so keep an eye on your second ball towards the end.
